I started freelancing back as early as 2003, and I would always tend to come back to it whether it be through telling my own stories or assisting others in telling or presenting their stories effectively. In 2015, I decided to focus solely on freelancing professionally, and in the spring of 2018 THE WRITE FLOW & VIBE, LLC was born.
After years of holding various positions and gaining various skills, one constant thing I have never lost a love and talent for is my ability to effectively communicate, especially in written form.
I also have a love for images, design, and style, as a result of my early experiences in graphic design, desktop publishing, and visual merchandising. I have a good eye, ear, and instinct for what works, so I am using this talent I've been blessed with to be a voice for myself and those I represent. Please come back and visit often for updates!
Shanika knew as early as elementary-school age that she wanted to become a writer; it was then that she would create stories of fiction and fantasy in her spare time or change the words of popular songs upon request to tell new stories to entertain friends. Shanika has a Bachelor's degree in advertising from Michigan State University and a Master's degree in communications from Grand Valley State University. Her expertise ranges from writing, editing, marketing communications, and public relations, to research, public speaking, instruction, and event organization. She has also gained a strong following for her career consultations, creating and improving resumes and accompanying documents for companies and individuals.
Besides working for her clients, Shanika finished and released her first book project. Released in December 2019, To Lead Or Not To Lead: Breaking the Glass Ceiling Using Lessons from Past Experiences emerged from her experience as a doctoral student in management/organizational leadership. From that previous educational journey, as well as her experience speaking on the subject, Shanika continues to consult, teach, and write on the value of implementing better communication and diversity to develop better relationships, whether it be in the workplace, classroom, and/or community. She currently teaches in the field of communications for a couple of community colleges in Michigan and is a freelance writer for a number of publications.
In her spare time, she loves to travel and shop, loves spending time with her family, loves music and movies, and loves to embark on new adventures. Originally from Muskegon Heights, Michigan, Shanika returned back to her hometown of Muskegon County after residing in Grand Rapids, Michigan for over 11 years, which she considers a second home. She proudly represents her fellow Tigers, Spartans, Lakers, and Sorors of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
